Drunken Goats – A Creative Drinking Card Game

Drunken Goats Drinking Game -

Drunken Goats is a game created by Daniel Scott and Eric C that combines strategic card games and drinking. Drunken Goats goes a little further than the average drinking game in that it’s actually a fun game even if you aren’t drinking. It’s fairly simple in it’s premise and carries a pretty strange and unique art style. It’s a fairly quick paced game and it’s got pretty great replay value.

How To Play Drunken Goats

The object of the game is to be the first person to collect a pair of each of the drinks. Tequila, Whiskey, Wine and Beer. Players draw cards hoping to get pairs and can also play action cards to effect the game and help you win.

The Cards

The deck contains two types of cards. Action cards and alcohol cards.

Alcohol cards

  • Tequila x6.
  • Whiskey x7
  • Wine x 10
  • Beer x 10

Action cards

There’s 20 action cards included in the deck as well which contain effects from causing someone to miss a turn to stealing a card from the discard pile.

The Drinking Rule

This part was great but didn’t really add or subtract too much from the game. Which is a good thing since the game stands up on it’s own. Players simply drink every time another player makes a pair. So the amount of drinking that happens for each player depends on how many players are playing. If there’s only a few players the drinks will be few and far between but if you can manage to get 5 or 6 players in on the game there should be plenty.

What we did is made it so that the winner of each round got to create a drinking rule for the next round. That kept things pretty fresh.

The Pros

  • It’s easy to pick up and play
  • Clever blending of randomization and strategy
  • Weird and unique art style
  • Great replay value
  • Can be light on the drinks

The Cons

  • Can be a little random on who wins or loses
  • Can be light on the drinks

The Verdict

Overall this game is great and we’d recommend it to anyone looking to play something that takes a little more strategy but doesn’t require much setting up. Although with the general flow of the game it’s very possible to lose simply because you didn’t draw the right cards. But hey, it is a card game after all. Either way it’s a great way to kill some time and down a beer or two. Drunken Goats makes a great gift for the drunken nerd in the family. Don’t pretend you don’t know who I’m talking about.
