5 Different Ways To Play Poker

Tabletop games are where the fun is at. However, with so many games available it’s hard to find those tried and tested ones that you want to keep playing more than once.

While some games require a lot of planning to get started, there are others that are easier and just as much fun. With tabletop card games it’s no different, and maybe you’re looking for something that is a quick play with a bit of strategy and planning. Poker would be the perfect tabletop game for your game night, and it doesn’t have to be boring or the same old-same old.

You’ll want to work on your poker face for this because you’re going to get five different ways to play poker that aren’t boring.

Texas Hold’em

If you’re looking for a simple and easy way to play poker, then you’ll want to try Texas Hold’em.

The goal of the game is to make the best hand out of five cards. The dealer gives each player two cards face down –  they’re called the hole cards. Then five more cards are dealt in the middle of the table face-up, called community cards. The players use the community cards to make the five-card hand and win the game.

While the game seems simple, it is a game that can take a while to master. The game is played in three stages and moves fairly quickly, once everyone understands the rules. The game gets more fun when you up the stakes with chips to predict the outcome of your hand. By the end of stage three, you’ll know if you have a good hand or not.

Texas Hold’em is a lot of fun and great when played with a large group.

Draw Poker

Draw Poker or five-card draw is likely a version of poker you’re familiar with. This is the version where the dealer deals you a full hand, and then you take turns replacing the cards in your hands before predicting the outcome of your hand with chips. Play circles to the left of the dealer until everyone has had a turn.

Draw Poker is one of the most popular ways to play, and while it’s familiar, it still takes some skill to master. This one is always a great variant to play with a group of friends for a little bit of fun.

Strip Poker

The next way to play poker is one that you’ve probably come across.

Strip poker has been around for a while, having been featured in numerous films stretching right back to the silent film era. It’s another way to have some fun with some friends, as long as some ground rules are followed.

You’ll want to make sure the group you’re playing with is comfortable with what articles of clothing will be stripped off. You’ll also want to play draw poker, as it is easier and more straight forward when it comes to the rules and is also one of the more familiar poker variants.

This is a great game for couples or friends that just want to add something different to their night.

Lowball Poker

Lowball is a way to switch up the classic game of poker.

In this variation the ranking is inverted, with the most popular version of low hands being ace-to-five, which means anyone with that hand would win. You can also add in a split between high and low hands, where the highest hand and the lowest hand split the pot. This variation makes the game more exciting and causes the players to adjust their strategy for playing the games.

Pineapple Poker

This version of poker is similar to Texas Hold’em, but with a slight twist. Instead of two cards for the hole cards, you get three. Second, before you can predict your hand with chips, you have to choose a card to discard, which means you won’t be able to form your hand as well. After the first round, the rules resume to normal.

Variations include crazy pineapple and lazy pineapple. Both change how you handle the three-hole cards that you’re dealt, and the prediction round also changes.

There you have it, five different ways to switch up your game night with Poker. Whether you’re playing a game of Hold’em or Pineapple, your friends are going to have fun, especially with changes in the rules.

When playing with your friends, you might even be able to pick up on their tells and learn something more about your tabletop playing group. Knowing how to play different types of poker can really enrich your gaming experience. Either way, add one of these poker variations to your game night for loads of fun, and a night everyone will be talking about for a while.
